Depok –
Residents are requesting road widening and the installation of traffic lights at congestion-prone points in Cinere, Depok, West Java. According to locals, some roads are too narrow, causing traffic jams in Cinere.
“The solution is consistent road widening. Bandung Road is wide, but the intersection near Cinere narrows,” said one resident in Cinere, Depok.
They explained that road narrowing at several points slows down vehicle flow. Some sections initially allow two cars to pass but then shrink to just one lane, leading to long queues.
“What should be two lanes narrows into one, causing congestion. The widening efforts in Cinere are inconsistent. Persatuan Road is wide, but near FM Cinere, it reduces to a single lane again. That’s how most roads in Cinere are,” they added.
Another resident also called for road expansion, noting that despite frequent police presence, traffic jams persist.
“Road widening is necessary, in my opinion. Police often direct traffic there, but the lanes are too narrow. At the Cinere intersection, drivers rarely yield, and the sides are already packed with shops,” they said.
In addition to road widening, some residents proposed installing traffic lights at the Mega Cinere intersection. One resident hoped traffic signals would improve order at the junction.
“I think a traffic light is needed at that intersection. The congestion happens because drivers refuse to yield when turning,” they explained.
Another resident also supported installing traffic lights, stating that jams are worsened by reckless driving.
“First, traffic lights are essential. Second, road widening would help. Third, traffic police should be stationed there. There are too many vehicles, and no one wants to give way,” they said.
The Mayor of Depok, Supian Suri, previously inspected the congestion points in Cinere, acknowledging the issue as a shared responsibility requiring solutions.
Meanwhile, observations on Cinere Raya Road showed heavy congestion at the Mega Cinere intersection. Vehicle queues stretched from Bukit Cinere Road and Jakarta Road, with no traffic lights present.
The intersection is congested as it connects traffic from Bukit Cinere Raya Road, Jakarta Road, and Cinere Raya Road. It serves as a key route for residents traveling between Depok and Jakarta.
