Surat. Local self-government elections in Surat city and district will be held on Sunday, April 26. Voting will take place for various seats of the Municipal Corporation, municipalities, district panchayat, and taluka panchayat in this election. The administration has completed extensive preparations to conduct the election peacefully and fairly.
In a joint press conference, officials provided detailed information about the election preparations.
According to officials, 483 candidates are contesting in 30 wards of the Surat Municipal Corporation, 224 candidates in four municipalities, 88 seats of the district panchayat, and 513 seats of the taluka panchayat.
More than 24.76 lakh voters will cast their votes in the municipal corporation area, while millions of voters across the municipalities, district panchayat, and taluka panchayat will participate in this major festival of democracy.
Among the 36 seats of the district panchayat, 4 have been elected unopposed, while voting will be held for the remaining 32 seats. Similarly, 16 seats of the municipalities and 21 seats of the taluka panchayat have also been declared uncontested.
For voting, 2,610 polling stations have been set up in the city. Drinking water, medical kits, and other essential facilities have been provided at all centers. Sealing of EVM machines has been completed and they have been placed in secure strong rooms, while reserve machines are also kept ready for any need.
Under security arrangements, more than 9,500 police personnel have been deployed in the city. A team of senior officers has been appointed for their supervision. Additionally, patrolling will be carried out with 565 vehicles, along with 50 special teams, QRT, and checkposts to monitor the entire city.
To maintain transparency during the election, continuous monitoring will be done through CCTV cameras, body-worn cameras, and a control room. Strict action has been taken against anti-social elements in advance, with preventive measures implemented against thousands of people.
The administration has appealed to voters to vote without any fear or hesitation and actively participate in this important occasion of democracy. The election results will be announced on April 28.
