A 54-year-old tofu factory employee in Parung Serab, Ciledug, Tangerang City, was found dead floating in the Angke River near his workplace.
Initial suspicions suggest the victim drowned after slipping in a bathroom located adjacent to the river.
The owner of the tofu factory, who is also the victim’s nephew, initially thought the man had returned to his hometown.
Since dawn, the victim had not been seen, and prior to being found dead, he had complained about leg pain due to gout.
“I thought he went back to his village because he was sick, but he didn’t answer my calls or messages. Around 7:30 AM, I asked others, but no one had seen him either,” the factory owner said.
A search was conducted by relatives but yielded no results. Around 1:00 PM, the owner received news that a body had been discovered in a river near the factory.
The discovery shocked local residents. Suspecting it might be his uncle, the owner rushed to the location to confirm.
“By 2:30 PM, after police verification, the body was confirmed to be Mr. Rohman, an employee and relative who worked here,” he stated.
According to the owner, the victim likely fell into the river while going to the bathroom. This was supported by preliminary statements from the Ciledug Police based on CCTV footage from the factory.
“All evidence (CCTV) has been taken by the police. They suspect it was an accident caused by slipping in the bathroom,” he added.
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old resident who first discovered the body said the victim was found face-down floating in the river around 12:30 PM while he was checking his banana plantation.
Suspecting it was a human body, he immediately reported it to the local neighborhood head. After verification, it was confirmed to be a corpse, and authorities were notified.
“When retrieved, someone recognized the victim as an employee from the nearby tofu factory. The police then evacuated the body to Tangerang General Hospital,” he said.
