Political parties have intensified their final phase of campaigning. Nur Azam, aged 26, was known in the area as a CPM worker. On Monday night, he was returning home after campaigning. It is alleged that he was beaten to death on the road at that time. After seeing the body, tension spread among CPM workers and supporters. It is alleged that Trinamool supporters had been threatening him not to campaign. Local CPM leaders have accused the ruling party of carrying out this murder.
A CPM leader stated, “Nur Azam was returning home after campaigning for the party candidate Samu Khan. For the past four days, Trinamool had been threatening him not to campaign. When he did not listen, he was killed.” However, Trinamool does not agree with that allegation. Upon learning of the incident, police and central force personnel arrived at the scene and controlled the situation. Islampur Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh said, “Police reached the spot and an investigation has begun. However, it is not yet clear how the death occurred. The cause of death will be clear once the autopsy report is received.”
