In Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture, an 81-year-old man who was reversing his car with the driver’s door open was thrown out of the vehicle and died.
According to police, around 1:45 p.m. on the 19th, in the Eba area of Kuwana City, the man (81) driving a passenger car tried to enter a store parking lot but found it full. While reversing with the driver’s door open, the car suddenly accelerated and he fell out of the vehicle.
The man hit his head hard and was taken to the hospital, but his death was confirmed about three and a half hours later.
The man’s wife was in the passenger seat but was not injured.
The man had removed his seatbelt while reversing. After he fell out, the car collided with a concrete block wall and stopped.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, suspecting the man may have confused the brake and accelerator pedals.
