A fire broke out at an LPG filling station in Bekasi City, West Java, injuring 12 people, according to the city’s Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency.
“There were no fatalities, but 12 people were injured and are receiving treatment. The victims include residents and station workers,” a statement said.
The victims were taken to several hospitals, including Kartika Husada Hospital, Bekasi City Regional General Hospital, RSUD Dr. Chasbullah Abdulmajid, and Citra Arafiq Hospital.
Details on the injuries were not provided.
Damage assessment is ongoing at the 2,000-square-meter site.
At least three nearby stalls, six tanker trucks, and seven motorcycles were severely damaged.
“Four kiosks sustained moderate damage, while minor damage was reported in 10 houses and one prayer room,” the statement added.
The Bekasi Fire and Rescue Office said a gas leak may have triggered the fire at the facility in Cimuning, Mustika Jaya Sub-district.
“We are awaiting the official investigation, but initial information suggests a gas leak,” a spokesperson said.
It was added that a short circuit may also have contributed to the incident.
Pertamina Patra Niaga said it would take full responsibility for the incident.
A company representative said the firm would support treatment for the injured and compensate affected residents.
“We will coordinate with authorities to assess the damage and assist recovery efforts,” the representative said.
