In his address to the conference, he emphasized that a ceasefire is the crucial first step towards ending the immense suffering of the Sudanese people.

He called for enhanced coordination among international mediation efforts, warning that fragmented initiatives threaten to undermine progress towards peace.

The President highlighted the pivotal role of the African Union and urged international partners to unite behind a single approach that supports a Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned political process, inclusive of civilian actors.

He also appealed for sustained humanitarian support and renewed global attention to the crisis, affirming that coordinated international action is the only way to pave the path towards lasting peace and stability in Sudan.

During his conference address, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia underscored the importance of continued international support, strengthened partnerships, and increased investment in host communities to ensure refugees can live with dignity and hope.

He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to inclusive refugee policies, focusing on expanding displaced people’s access to education, livelihoods, and essential services.

During the conference, participating countries pledged approximately 1.8 billion euros to combat hunger in Sudan, support refugees, and provide urgent healthcare and shelter, reflecting a renewed global commitment to addressing the current crisis.

African Union

The African Union (AU) is a continental organization established in 2002, succeeding the Organization of African Unity (OAU) founded in 1963. Its primary aims are to promote unity, peace, security, and sustainable development across its 55 member states. Rooted in the history of Pan-Africanism and decolonization, the AU works through bodies like the Peace and Security Council to address continental challenges and advance economic integration.

Sudan

Sudan is a country in Northeast Africa with a rich ancient history, most notably as the home of the Kingdom of Kush, which ruled from the city of Meroë and even conquered Egypt to establish the 25th Dynasty. Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a historically rich nation in the Horn of Africa, widely considered one of the oldest sites of human existence and home to the ancient Aksumite Kingdom. It is unique in Africa for largely maintaining its sovereignty during the colonial era and is renowned for its rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, its Orthodox Christian heritage, and as the origin of coffee.
