CIKARANG – The Head of the Bekasi Regency Fire Department urged residents, ahead of the Eid homecoming travel period, to ensure all electrical circuits and open flames in their homes are inactive and safe before leaving.
“We have disseminated this appeal through social media accounts such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok so that people can travel home peacefully without worrying about the condition of the houses they leave behind,” he said.
There are several steps residents should take before leaving their homes for the homecoming journey. First, unplug electronic appliances such as refrigerators, water dispensers, and televisions to prevent electrical short circuits, which are often the main cause of house fires.
Second, ensure kitchen equipment is safe by turning off gas stoves, disconnecting the regulator from the gas cylinder, and making sure no gas leaks are left behind. Third, avoid using fireworks as they have the potential to cause fires that can endanger the surrounding environment.
“Residents are urged to report their home situation to the neighborhood association, entrust their house to a neighbor or security personnel, and leave a contact number that can be reached in case of an emergency,” he emphasized.
The Fire Department advised pet owners to entrust their animals to relatives or trusted boarding facilities. Pets should not be left behind without care, as this can cause other problems and has the potential to disturb or even endanger the environment and surrounding residents.
In addition to delivering the appeal, the Bekasi Regency Fire Department will also conduct homecoming travel monitoring together with the Police, Military, Public Order Agency, and Transportation Agency at border points, such as in Kedungwaringin District and other designated areas.
“We are also mobilizing already established fire volunteer teams to be on standby during the homecoming period. If a fire occurs, the public can immediately contact the Bekasi Regency Fire Department via the call center at 021-22137870 or the Bekasi Regency emergency service 112 for quick and responsive assistance,” he said.
