BEKASI CITY – To commemorate the 2025 World Food Day at the city level, the Bekasi City Government through the Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Agency organized a Cassava-Based Menu Creation Competition, held at Lotte Mart Wholesale Bekasi.

The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Bekasi, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Bekasi, the Chairperson of the Bekasi City PKK, the Vice Chairperson of the PKK, and the Head of the Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Agency of Bekasi City.

This event was also attended by representatives of the PKK from 12 districts throughout Bekasi City, who showcased their creativity in cassava-based menus.

In his address, the Mayor of Bekasi stated that this year’s competition theme highlights cassava-based food processing as a tangible form of support for national food security and strengthening local food consumption.

“With the theme of cassava processing, we aim to reduce the community’s dependence on rice and wheat. The Bekasi City Government fully supports the food diversification movement by encouraging the consumption of non-rice and non-wheat carbohydrate sources such as sweet potatoes, cassava, breadfruit, corn, and other tubers,” he said.

He also emphasized that utilizing local food ingredients not only maintains food self-sufficiency but also opens up economic opportunities for the community.

“The benefits are not only from the health and food security aspects, but it can also create creative, innovative, and high-value non-rice and non-wheat food menus based on cassava,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Bekasi City PKK stated that this activity serves as a platform for PKK mothers to channel their creativity while educating the public to better appreciate local food.

“PKK plays an important role in mobilizing families to be more nutritionally conscious and creative in processing easily available local food ingredients,” she said.

Through this activity, the Bekasi City Government hopes to foster community enthusiasm in optimizing the potential of local food and strengthening the movement for “Diverse, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe Food Consumption.”
