About: Panama Canal

The Panama Canal, an engineering marvel completed in 1914, connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans through the Isthmus of Panama. Originally a project started by France in 1881, the United States took over in 1904 and completed the canal after overcoming immense logistical and medical challenges, notably controlling diseases like malaria and yellow fever. This strategic waterway significantly reduces the maritime journey between the east and west coasts of the Americas, greatly influencing global trade patterns.
