From February 22nd to February 26th (the 6th to the 10th day of the Lunar New Year), congestion is expected on the eastbound lanes of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link towards Shenzhen. Traffic slowdowns or congestion are likely to occur at the entrances of the bidirectional tunnels and on the section from the Wanqingsha Interchange to the West Artificial Island in the direction from Zhongshan to Shenzhen during peak travel periods. Traffic police will be deployed at various expressway entrances to promptly alleviate traffic pressure caused by the Spring Festival return travel. It is reported that the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link’s toll-free period will end at 24:00 on February 23rd, based on the time a vehicle exits the toll station lane. Drivers are advised to plan their travel routes in advance and travel during off-peak hours.
Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is a massive cross-sea transportation project in China’s Guangdong Province, officially opened in June 2024. It is a 24-kilometer-long bridge-tunnel system across the Pearl River Estuary, significantly reducing travel time between the cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan. Its construction, which began in 2016, represents a major engineering achievement aimed at integrating the cities within the Greater Bay Area.
Wanqingsha Interchange
The Wanqingsha Interchange is a major highway interchange located in the Nansha District of Guangzhou, China. It is a crucial part of the region’s transportation infrastructure, connecting several expressways to facilitate travel and commerce in the Pearl River Delta. While it does not have a long historical narrative as a cultural site, its construction and expansion reflect the rapid economic development and urban planning of Guangzhou in the 21st century.
West Artificial Island
West Artificial Island is a man-made landmass constructed in the early 21st century as part of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge project. It serves as a crucial transportation hub, housing a major border crossing facility and tunnel entrance to connect the bridge’s sections. Its primary purpose is to facilitate travel and economic integration within the Greater Bay Area of China.
