Al Kufra Municipality is facing increasing challenges due to the significant rise in the number of Sudanese displaced persons within the municipality and its surroundings.

The official municipal spokesperson stated in press remarks that the increase in the number of Sudanese displaced persons has placed heavy burdens on the city’s service institutions, particularly the health sector. He noted that a large number of displaced persons are living in difficult humanitarian conditions, especially on farms located on the outskirts of the city, making them more susceptible to diseases, particularly among children and the more vulnerable groups of women and the elderly.

He pointed out that a number of international organizations continue their support in cooperation with the municipal council, the Illegal Immigration Control Agency, and the Al Kufra Security Directorate to alleviate the burden on the city’s service institutions. Through this cooperation, humanitarian aid is being distributed to a large number of displaced persons and those in need.

He indicated that this aid includes food items, cleaning materials, clothing, furnishings, and blankets, provided by several entities, foremost among them the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the World Food Programme, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in partnership with the Red Crescent.
