On January 9, the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) announced the “Provisions on Rewarding Whistleblowers for Securities and Futures Violations,” which took effect immediately upon publication. The reward standards have been significantly increased, raising the bonus proportion. The reward amount has been raised from 1% of the case’s forfeiture and fine amount to 3%. For those providing clues about major violations, the maximum reward has also been increased from 100,000 yuan to 500,000 yuan. For case clues that have a significant nationwide impact, involve exceptionally large amounts, or where the whistleblower is an internal insider, the maximum reward per case has been uniformly raised from 300,000 yuan and 600,000 yuan to 1 million yuan. The provisions specify that major cases that severely disrupt the order of the securities and futures market, seriously endanger financial security, or severely infringe upon the legitimate rights and interests of investors are included in the scope of rewardable cases. The threshold for cases eligible for rewards has been raised from a forfeiture and fine amount of 100,000 yuan to 1 million yuan.
