On November 26, Cai Lei posted on Weibo:
Today I was informed that there’s trending content claiming “Cai Lei says he only has 3 to 5 years left to live,” which is distorted and misleading. My original statement meant: The average survival period for ALS patients is only three to five years. This is general clinical data about the disease, not a prediction about my personal lifespan.
For a long time, some self-media accounts have been sensationalizing my condition, sometimes spreading rumors about “physical improvement,” other times exaggerating “deteriorating health,” seriously deviating from the facts. I feel compelled to clarify. ALS is cruel and fatal, and my physical condition continues to deteriorate – this is not pleasant, but it’s the reality. However, this isn’t the main point. What’s important is that I can still fully advance scientific research through technological means. There is hope, and that hope keeps growing! Technology can not only change lives but also rewrite life itself. I hope everyone will pay more attention to the ongoing scientific research efforts. All sectors of society are supporting the fight against difficult diseases. Every effort could bring health benefits to everyone. I’m also preparing to report more work achievements in the coming new year. Focus more on the positive and hopeful aspects, less on sensationalism and misinformation. Thank you!
