Residents stop a soil truck passing through Legok Highway, Pagedangan, Tangerang Regency.
The Banten Provincial Government reaffirmed its commitment to immediately draft technical regulations to standardize the operating hours of mining transport vehicles across eight regencies/cities.
This strategic step was taken following increased social conflicts and traffic disruptions caused by the movement of heavy trucks.
“We want uniformity in regulating mining vehicle operating hours across all regions of Banten,” he stated after leading a coordination meeting with regency/city government representatives.
The Governor explained that this coordination meeting is part of joint efforts to ensure that mining truck movements can be more orderly, safe, and not disrupt public activities, especially in congested urban routes.
Prioritize Toll Road Usage
During the meeting, the importance of utilizing toll road infrastructure as the main distribution route for mining products was highlighted. It was emphasized that the Banten Provincial Government has the authority to regulate this matter.
“The government has the authority to regulate this. If toll roads exist, they must be utilized. Heavy trucks should not choose alternative routes that endanger the public just to avoid toll fees,” he concluded.
The Governor requested all relevant parties, including toll road operators and other supporting agencies, to immediately coordinate in preparing detailed technical regulations and ensure effective implementation of policies in the field.
Tangerang City Government Support
Meanwhile, the Tangerang City Deputy Mayor, who attended the meeting, conveyed that Tangerang City, as one of the downstream distribution routes, strongly supports the synchronization of these regulations.
It was explained that cross-regional regulation synchronization is key since Tangerang City and Tangerang Regency are part of the downstream distribution route for mining products from the Lebak area and its surroundings.
“Cross-regional synchronization is crucial so that implemented policies do not operate in isolation and can be more effective,” the Deputy Mayor stated.
The Tangerang City Government emphasized that it already has strict regulations. Based on the Mayor Regulation Number 93 of 2022, the city government has established six heavy vehicle monitoring points.
“This regulation is already in effect, where heavy vehicles, including mining trucks, are only permitted to operate between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM,” the Deputy Mayor affirmed.
However, the city government hopes that coordination under the Banten Provincial Government can be strengthened moving forward. “This way, heavy vehicle traffic can be more orderly and not cause disruptions in urban areas,” they added.
In addition to operating hour synchronization, the Tangerang City Government also strongly hopes that future heavy vehicle distribution routes can be directed more through toll road access.
“Especially for heavy vehicles transporting mining products to regency areas, we hope they can be directed through the Kartaraja, Teluknaga, and PIK 2 toll routes,” suggested the Deputy Mayor.
