JOMBANG – Residents of Jombatan Village, Kesamben District, Jombang Regency, have finally succeeded in capturing the aggressive animal that had been causing unrest. The aggressive animal was shot dead while clinging to a bamboo cluster, after previously attacking a child and an elderly person.
The capture was recorded in a short amateur video that has now gone viral on social media. The footage shows a tense scene as a long-tailed monkey appears in a residential area. A marksman who had been tracking the wild animal for several days immediately fired an air rifle.
The bullet struck the monkey’s body, causing it to fall to the ground. The sound of barking dogs echoed, adding to the dramatic scene. The monkey was quickly secured and placed in a sack. Its physical appearance revealed sharp claws and teeth, which it had used as weapons during attacks on humans.
According to officials from the Jombang BPBD Operations Center, the captured monkey is believed to be one of three that had attacked residents in the past week. The first attack occurred on July 12, 2025, in Jombatan Village, where a 7-year-old child was scratched.
The second attack took place in Podoroto Village on Friday, July 18, 2025. This time, the victims were a 12-year-old sixth-grade student and his 60-year-old grandmother. The boy even required four stitches on his left hand due to scratch wounds.
“The hunt was conducted separately. The BPBD Firefighter Team focused on Podoroto Village, while hunters from Wonosalam District worked with residents to comb through Jombatan Village,” explained an official.
