Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire.
Countries have agreed to a temporary ceasefire following renewed clashes at the border and today’s Pakistani strikes on Kandahar and Kabul provinces, which resulted in dozens of casualties.
During this period, both sides will make sincere efforts to find a positive solution to this complex but solvable issue through constructive dialogue.
Islamabad notes that the ceasefire was initiated by the Taliban. At the same time, their spokesperson stated that the ceasefire agreement came as a result of the Pakistani side’s persistent request. He noted that Afghan forces have been instructed not to fire unless aggression occurs.
Kandahar
Kandahar is a major city in southern Afghanistan with deep historical roots, dating back to its founding by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BCE. It served as a key capital for various empires, including the Durrani Empire in the 18th century, which established the foundation of modern Afghanistan. Today, it remains a significant cultural and economic hub, though it has been heavily affected by recent conflicts.
Kabul
Kabul is the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, with a history dating back over 3,500 years. It has served as a strategic cultural and trading hub along the Silk Road and as the seat of power for various empires, including the Mughals. In recent decades, the city has endured significant conflict and instability, including the Soviet-Afghan War, civil war, and Taliban rule.
