Haryana's Jhajjar district was the epicenter of the earthquake, people said the first tremor was stronger

Jhajjar/New Delhi, July 10. On Thursday morning around 9 AM, two strong tremors were felt in Delhi NCR, with the epicenter in Jhajjar district, Haryana. Locals reported being frightened by the earthquake shocks. People said the first tremor was more intense.

Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Jhajjar district, Haryana, and Delhi NCR on Thursday morning. Two tremors occurred between 9:05 and 9:10 AM, measuring 4.4 and 3.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was 10 kilometers north of Jhajjar city, with a depth of 10 kilometers below the ground.

Local residents shared their experiences: “We were sitting on the bed when it started shaking. The whole family immediately rushed outside. The second tremor was milder.” Another said, “I was in the shop when it began shaking. We ran out immediately.”

One person recounted, “I was reading the newspaper when a strong jolt hit. The first tremor was much stronger.” Another mentioned, “The tremors came while eating. Two shocks lasting 10-12 seconds were felt—the first was more intense.” Concerns were raised about earthquakes during monsoon season potentially damaging houses. The National Center for Seismology also confirmed the first tremor was stronger. So far, no casualties or property damage have been reported.

In Jhajjar and Delhi, people were frightened by the morning tremors, with many evacuating their homes. During earthquakes, moving to open spaces, hiding under sturdy furniture, or staying away from walls is considered safest.

Earlier, on February 17, strong tremors were felt across Delhi and NCR at 5:36 AM. The quake was so intense that it woke sleeping residents and panicked those already awake. People immediately evacuated their homes and stayed outside for safety. The epicenter was New Delhi, with a depth of 5 kilometers.
