As the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays approach, Chengdu is offering a variety of exciting activities under the theme «Where to Go in Golden October: A Trip to Chengdu’s Diverse Scenery.» During the holiday period, there will be more than 40 exhibitions and events. Chengdu Museum, Wuhou Shrine Museum, Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, Chengdu Natural Museum, and Chengdu Art Museum will extend their opening hours during the holidays, allowing residents and visitors to fully experience the charm of Chengdu’s culture.

Chengdu Museum
The Chengdu Museum is a modern museum showcasing over 200,000 artifacts that narrate the 4,000-year history of the Chengdu region. Its extensive collections, including the famous Puppet Shadow Theater figures, highlight the area’s rich cultural heritage from ancient Shu civilization to the modern era. The museum itself opened in its current prominent location in Tianfu Square in 2016.
Wuhou Shrine Museum
The Wuhou Shrine Museum in Chengdu is a temple complex dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the famed strategist of the Shu Han kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280 AD), and Liu Bei, its emperor. Established in the 4th century, the current buildings largely date from the Qing Dynasty (17th century). It is celebrated for its serene gardens, ancient cypress trees, and cultural relics associated with the era.
Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum
The Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum in Chengdu is a park and museum commemorating Du Fu, one of China’s greatest poets. It is located on the site of a humble cottage where he lived and wrote around 240 poems during the Tang Dynasty (around 760 AD). The site, with its reconstructed traditional buildings and serene gardens, offers a tribute to his literary legacy.
Chengdu Natural Museum
The Chengdu Natural Museum, which opened in 2022, is a major new cultural institution in Sichuan province. It was formed by merging the former Chengdu Museum of Natural History and the Chengdu Institute of Paleontology, bringing together extensive collections of dinosaur fossils, minerals, and animal specimens. The museum’s exhibits showcase the region’s rich natural history, with a particular focus on the unique dinosaur discoveries from Sichuan.
Chengdu Art Museum
The Chengdu Art Museum is a modern cultural institution that opened in 2021 in Tianfu Square. Its collection focuses on 20th and 21st-century Chinese art, with a special emphasis on works by influential artists from the Sichuan region. The museum’s striking contemporary architecture has quickly made it a prominent landmark in the city’s cultural landscape.
Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum
The Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum is built upon the archaeological remains of the ancient Shu Kingdom, which dates back approximately 3,000 years. The site was accidentally discovered in 2001 and is considered one of the most important archaeological finds in China for understanding the Shu civilization. It showcases a wide array of relics, including the famous «Golden Sun Bird» artifact, which has become a symbol of Chengdu.
