From July 30, Yokohama Takashimaya (1 Minamisai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama) will host the POP UP SHOP «[JAL] After Flying in the Sky,» featuring upcycled products made from retired aircraft parts.
This project is part of the sustainability initiatives (SDGs) by Yokohama Takashimaya and JAL Engineering (Ota-ku, Tokyo), which maintains aircraft for the JAL Group.
The products are crafted from parts originally destined for disposal, utilizing the creativity and expertise of aviation technicians. The lineup includes: a «Miniature Life Vest» (¥3,630) made from an unused vest removed during routine replacement, a «FUSELAGE SKIN TAG» keychain (¥14,300) using a fragment of the fuselage skin from the retired Boeing 777-200 JA772J, a «Seat Cover Tote Bag» (¥16,500) made from fire-resistant and durable economy-class seat materials, and a «Seat Cover Stool» (¥16,500)—featuring covers from first, business, and economy-class seats of a Boeing 777, allowing users to feel the difference in leather textures.
On August 2 and 3, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, JAL Engineering technicians will offer on-site engraving for customers purchasing the «Golf Name Tag from Aircraft Window» or «Window Frame Tag.»
The organizers highlight: «During summer, when air travel peaks, aircraft parts that once protected travelers are given a new life.»
The event will take place in the Men’s Accessories Event Space on the 6th floor. Operating hours: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (closing at 5:00 PM on the final day). It runs until August 12.
