The General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (Monsha’at) will launch the E-Commerce Week next week, with the participation of approximately 60 entities from the public and private sectors, as part of the Business Weeks series, at the Enterprise Support Centers in the cities of Riyadh and Madinah, and the governorates of Jeddah and Al-Khobar.
The week aims to highlight the importance of e-commerce and its vital role in supporting the growth and sustainability of small and medium enterprises, in addition to enabling entrepreneurs to build a wide network of relationships with experts and relevant entities, through an interactive platform that brings together knowledge and expertise under one roof.
Enterprise Support Centers
Enterprise Support Centers are modern business facilities designed to assist startups and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) with resources like mentorship, networking, and shared office space. They emerged prominently in the late 20th and early 21st centuries as part of global economic development initiatives to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. These centers play a crucial role in supporting local economies by helping new businesses grow and succeed.
Riyadh
Riyadh is the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia, historically a walled oasis town and the ancestral home of the Al Saud dynasty. It transformed from a small desert settlement into a modern metropolis following the discovery of oil in the 20th century, serving as the political and administrative center of the kingdom.
Madinah
Madinah, officially known as Medina, is a city in Saudi Arabia revered as the second holiest city in Islam. It is historically significant as the site of Prophet Muhammad’s emigration (Hijrah) from Mecca in 622 CE, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar. The city served as the capital of the first Muslim community and is the location of the Prophet’s Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi), which contains his tomb.
Jeddah
Jeddah is a major port city on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, historically serving as the gateway for pilgrims traveling to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Its historic core, Al-Balad, is a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its distinctive coral architecture and traditional merchant houses.
Al-Khobar
Al-Khobar is a major city and commercial hub in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, which grew from a small fishing village in the early 20th century. Its modern development was heavily influenced by the discovery of oil in the region, transforming it into a vital center for the petroleum industry and a gateway to nearby Bahrain via the King Fahd Causeway.
