Zelensky announces discovery of Western components in Russian drones and missiles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine has found tens of thousands of foreign components, including some manufactured in the West, in Russian drones and missiles launched during an aerial attack on the country over the weekend.

Zelensky stated in a social media post, “During the massive joint attack on Ukraine on the night of October 5th, Russia used 549 weapon systems containing 102,785 foreign-made components,” referring to the attack that occurred at dawn on Sunday.

Russia launched approximately 500 drones and more than 50 missiles toward Ukraine that night, resulting in the deaths of five people, including in the Lviv region (west) hundreds of kilometers from the front line, and causing damage to energy infrastructure.

Zelensky reported that components in the drones and missiles intercepted during the attack came from “companies in the United States, China, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.”

He noted that the components found in the downed drones and missiles include converters, sensors, and microcomputers.

“The microcontrollers for the drones are manufactured in Switzerland, while the microcomputers for controlling the drones’ flight are made in the United Kingdom,” he said, adding that Kyiv is preparing new sanctions against their manufacturers.

He added, “We have submitted proposals to limit supply schemes. Partners already have detailed data about each company and each product. They know what needs to be targeted and how to respond.”
