Russian theater scholar and educator Boris Lyubimov has been appointed president of the Shchepkin Higher Theater School (Institute) at the State Academic Maly Theater of Russia, according to a message on the Russian Ministry of Culture’s Telegram channel.
“The Ministry has supported the decision of the institute’s staff to introduce the position of president of the Shchepkin Higher Theater School (Institute) at the State Academic Maly Theater of Russia and to appoint Boris Lyubimov to this position,” the message states.
It was previously reported that Anton Leshchinsky, a candidate of art history and professor, has been appointed acting rector of the Shchepkin School.
Shchepkin Higher Theater School
The Shchepkin Higher Theater School is a prestigious Russian drama school in Moscow, founded in 1809 as part of the Maly Theatre. It is named after the renowned 19th-century actor Mikhail Shchepkin, a founding father of realistic acting in Russia. The school has a long tradition of training actors in the principles of psychological realism and the Stanislavski system.
State Academic Maly Theater of Russia
The State Academic Maly Theatre of Russia, founded in Moscow in 1756, is one of the oldest and most prestigious drama theaters in the country. It is historically renowned as “The House of Ostrovsky” for its deep association with the playwright Alexander Ostrovsky, who wrote many of his major works for its company. The Maly has played a pivotal role in developing Russian realistic theater and remains a national cultural institution.
