The identity of the perpetrator was established through DNA.

The crime occurred in August 1994. While extinguishing a fire in an apartment in the town of Kamennolomni, the body of an 8-year-old girl with signs of violent death was discovered. It was determined that the perpetrator had assaulted the child, set the premises on fire to conceal the crime, and left the apartment through a window.

The man was found 31 years later as part of efforts to solve and investigate past crimes. Forensic experts conducted genetic examinations and identified the DNA profile of the suspected criminal. He turned out to be a 51-year-old resident of the city of Shakhty.

The man had been repeatedly convicted. One of his sentences was served for 11 episodes of crimes involving violence against children.

It was established that the perpetrator posed as a utility service employee, entered apartments, and committed thefts and crimes against sexual integrity.

During interrogation and while reenacting the crime scene, the detainee admitted his guilt. He was charged. The man was taken into custody. Investigators are currently checking the accused’s involvement in other crimes.
