On the evening of October 21, two dolphins were stranded on the shore in Anapa. One of them died. Specialists will determine what caused the death of the common dolphin.

Volunteers arrived at the beach 50 minutes after receiving the report about the dolphins. However, one of the common dolphins was already dead.

“After examination, it became clear that it was a female. She was extremely weak and emaciated; a dolphin in such condition has practically no chance of survival. Our specialists collected biological samples from the deceased common dolphin to investigate possible causes of death,” reported the dolphin rescue center.

According to specialists, the second dolphin could have been the offspring of the deceased common dolphin. However, it is already old enough to eat fish. Volunteers took the young dolphin farther from shore on a raft. They confirmed that it could stay afloat on its own. For about an hour, the young dolphin swam in the area independently and then swam out to sea.

“The young dolphin has chances of survival, but there is a possibility that it might need help again,” reported the volunteers.

In the evening of October 21, people initially tried to push the dolphins farther out to sea but were unsuccessful. Then they called for help, which specialists immediately responded to by sending a veterinarian to the beach.

Witnesses suggested that the common dolphins might have swum into shallow water, and seaweed prevented them from returning to sea. They speculated that one of the dolphins might have suffocated due to seaweed entering its blowhole.
