Krasnodar

Krasnodar is a major city in southern Russia, founded in 1793 by Catherine the Great as a military fortress to guard the empire’s new borders. It serves as the cultural and economic hub of the Kuban region, historically known for its Cossack heritage.

Karasun reservoirs

The Karasun reservoirs are a system of artificial lakes in Krasnodar, Russia, originally constructed in the late 19th century for irrigation and flood control. Today, they serve as a popular recreational area for the city’s residents, featuring parks and walking paths along their shores.

Kuban River

The Kuban River is a major river in southern Russia, flowing from the Caucasus Mountains to the Sea of Azov. Historically, its fertile valley was a significant region for the Kuban Cossacks, who settled there in the late 18th century to defend the southern borders of the Russian Empire. Today, it is a vital source for irrigation and a central feature of the Krasnodar Krai’s agriculture and identity.
