MANILA – The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has mobilized emergency shelter assistance for families affected by Severe Tropical Storm “Crising” (Wipha), which damaged 356 houses across three regions.

As of Saturday noon, DHSUD regional offices reported 307 partially damaged homes and 49 completely destroyed, with the highest number in Region VI (Western Visayas) at 183, followed by Region IX with 87 and the Negros Island Region with 65.

To assist displaced families, DHSUD has requested 5,000 shelter-grade tarpaulins from the International Organization for Migration for distribution in the hardest-hit areas, particularly Region VI and Negros Island.

“Following the directive of the President, we are preparing necessary post-disaster assistance for affected families,” a DHSUD official stated in a release.

“It is crucial to remain proactive to ensure timely aid delivery.”

DHSUD is also working with local governments to implement the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP), providing PHP30,000 to families with totally destroyed homes and PHP10,000 for partially damaged residences.

The IDSAP, introduced under the current administration, supplements local government aid and aligns with DHSUD’s role as the national shelter cluster lead.

Previously, DHSUD distributed housing materials and essential kits to storm-affected communities.
