President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignation of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan, effective September 1.
As a replacement, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon has been appointed as the new head of DPWH.
According to Malacañang, Dizon has also been instructed to conduct a cleanup of the agency: “Secretary Dizon has been tasked to conduct a full organizational sweep of the Department and ensure that public funds are used solely for infrastructure that truly protects and benefits the Filipino people.”
When asked if Bonoan’s resignation letter was new, the response was, “Not sure if new. All courtesy resignations have no expiry. We all serve at the pleasure of the President.”
At the same time, the Palace has established an Independent Commission to Investigate Flood Control Anomalies, which will examine projects, identify irregularities, and recommend accountability to maintain public trust in infrastructure spending.
The statement added that these decisions demonstrate the administration’s strong stance to curb corruption, strengthen institutions, and deliver honest and effective public service under the New Philippines.
Meanwhile, DOTr Undersecretary Giovanni Z. Lopez will serve as the officer-in-charge of the agency.
Malacañang
Malacañang Palace is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the Philippines. Originally built in 1750 as a private summer home for a Spanish aristocrat, it was later seized by the Spanish colonial government and became the residence of the Governor-General. After Philippine independence, it was transformed into the presidential palace and has since been the center of executive power in the country.
