MANILA, Philippines — Everything is set for the showdown between eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Mario Barrios, which kicks off today at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A day before the fight, both Pacquiao and Barrios successfully made weight during the weigh-in.
The 46-year-old Pacquiao weighed in at 146.8 lbs, while Barrios came in at 146.2 lbs.
Spectators can expect an intense clash as both fighters are hungry for victory.
This marks Pacquiao’s first return to professional boxing after a four-year retirement.
He is determined to give his all for a triumphant comeback in the ring.
“I’m so happy I’m back because boxing is my passion and I missed boxing,” said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao aims to secure an upset win against the younger and taller Barrios.
Pacquiao last tasted victory in 2019 when he defeated Keith Thurman.
However, Pacquiao faces a tough challenge as Barrios boasts a 29-2-1 record.
Barrios remains unfazed despite Pacquiao’s veteran status.
“I’m approaching this the same way I have all my other fights—I treat it as just another title defense,” said Barrios.
Barrios won’t hold back once he steps into the ring with Pacquiao, stating that Pacquiao’s time in boxing is over.
He believes it’s now his moment and is confident he will successfully defend his title against the Filipino boxer.
“Manny has accomplished so much, but it’s my time now. Hats off to Pacquiao for daring to be great. But it’s my time now and I’m gonna show that come fight day,” said Barrios.
Barrios is favored in betting sites, but Pacquiao isn’t bothered by it.
The Filipino boxer is used to being the underdog in his past fights.
“I’m okay being the underdog. I’ve been the underdog many times. I’m always bringing surprises,” said Pacquiao.
