“Man, 53, arrested in Sapporo for allegedly breaking into woman’s home and stealing keys; claims he has no memory of incident”

On July 10, 2025, the Toyohira Police Station in Sapporo, Hokkaido, arrested a 53-year-old company employee living in Toyohira Ward, Sapporo, on suspicion of trespassing and theft.

The man is suspected of breaking into an apartment in Toyohira Ward, Sapporo, on the night of June 20, 2025, and stealing a set of keys (worth approximately 8,000 yen at market value).

The police received a report from a woman in her 50s living in the apartment, stating, “Someone may have entered my room. My keys are missing.” After reviewing security camera footage, investigators identified the man as a suspect.

According to police, the man and the woman were acquaintances.

During questioning, the man denied the allegations, stating, “I have no recollection of this. I did not enter the woman’s room without permission, nor did I steal anything.”

The police are investigating the incident as a potential stalking-related case, examining motives and possible additional crimes.
