The networking event “Open Night Yokohama・Kannai Vol.72 ~Yokohama 100th Anniversary~” will be held on May 26 at Taisei Porch Front (Aioi-cho 2, Naka-ku, Yokohama).
This exchange event, organized once every one to two months with a set theme, focuses on “Yokohama 100th Anniversary” this time.
Among Yokohama’s 18 wards, five wards—Naka, Kanagawa, Hodogaya, Tsurumi, and Isogo—were established in 1927 as the city’s first five wards, celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2027. Each ward has launched an executive committee for commemorative projects, inviting residents, organizations, and businesses to submit ideas to celebrate the centennial. Naka Ward selected the catchphrase “100 Years of Sea Breeze, Set Sail for the Future” through a resident vote based on submissions from those aged 18 and under, and is also accepting resident-proposed projects. Tsurumi Ward has adopted a commemorative logo featuring its mascot character “Wak-kun” and a catchphrase, while Isogo Ward promotes the catchphrase “Thank You, Isogo, for 100 Years of Leaping into the Future.”
The event will feature introductions of each ward’s initiatives and free discussion. From the group “Everyone’s Hodogaya Creative Thinking,” which works on Hodogaya Ward’s 100th anniversary projects, President Masashi Aoki and others will take the stage.
Drinks will include Yokohama Beer’s craft beer “Yokohama Wheat,” made from wheat grown at Iwasaki Farm near the planned venue for “GREEN×EXPO 2027” (International Horticultural Expo) in Seya Ward in 2027. The new product “Yokohama Saison,” released in April, will also be introduced.
A representative said, “Each ward is currently calling for proposals for 100th anniversary projects and other ideas from residents. We hope people can discuss their ideas.” They added, “Not limited to the 100th anniversary, we also welcome introductions of other Yokohama events marking anniversaries or upcoming event information,” and are inviting speakers for the day.
The event runs from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Participation fee is 1,000 yen, and a drink order is required. Reservations are preferred, but same-day participation is also possible.
