Around 3:00 AM on the 15th, a woman who was crossing National Route 246 in Yamato City was hit by a refrigerated truck and later confirmed dead at the hospital.

The Yamato Police Station arrested the 61-year-old male driver from Zama City on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (negligent driving causing injury) but later released him and is now investigating him for causing death while driving.

According to authorities, the scene was a nearly straight road with two lanes on each side, separated by a median barrier that prevents pedestrians from crossing. A pedestrian bridge is located nearby. The driver stated, “I noticed the woman stepping onto the road from the sidewalk while pushing a bicycle, but even though I hit the brakes, I couldn’t stop in time.” He has reportedly admitted to the allegations.
