A 24-year-old female employee, who was inspecting playground equipment at “City” (Koraku 1-chome), died after being trapped between a pillar and the seat section. An investigation by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department on the 24th revealed that the cause of death was traumatic shock.
The equipment involved in the accident was a “Flying Balloon,” which had seats arranged in a circle around a central pillar, with the seats moving up and down.
The accident occurred around 11:50 a.m. on the 21st. The woman was inspecting the equipment while standing on a stepladder near the base of the pillar when the seat section, which should have been fixed at the top of the pillar, suddenly descended. She was trapped in the approximately 15-centimeter gap between the pillar and the seat section, and was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was transported.
