The voter turnout in Hokkaido for the House of Councillors election was 26.50% as of 6:00 PM, lower than the previous election.
Meanwhile, a polling station in Ishikari City mistakenly issued a duplicate ballot, resulting in a double-voting error.
In this House of Councillors election, the Hokkaido electoral district has 12 candidates competing for 3 seats.
According to the Hokkaido Election Administration Committee, the turnout in standard voting districts as of 6:00 PM was 26.50%, 1.25 points lower than the previous election.
Voting will continue until 8:00 PM, except in some areas.
Separately, at a polling station in Ishikari City, a woman in her 90s who had already cast an early vote on the 16th was mistakenly issued another ballot for the electoral district, resulting in a double vote.
The error occurred because the reception staff overlooked the confirmation box for early voting and processed her again.
The Ishikari City Election Administration Committee has stated that both ballots will be treated as valid.
