Approximately 160 kilometers off the coast of Cape Erimo, a 32-year-old male captain of a Pacific saury fishing boat lost consciousness while diving and later died in an accident.
Around 7:30 PM, a report was made to the Coast Guard stating, “One crew member has fainted while diving approximately 160 kilometers southeast of Cape Erimo. We request rescue assistance.”
In this incident, the 32-year-old fishing boat captain was rescued onto the fishing vessel by other crew members. He was airlifted by helicopter from the boat and transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest, where his death was later confirmed.
According to the investigation, the man was diving to remove a net that had become entangled with the fishing boat.
The Coast Guard is conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances at the time.
