The man is suspected of stealing one pudding item (retail price: 615 yen) from a discount store in Sapporo’s Chuo Ward around 5:50 AM on the 19th.

Store staff apprehended the man as he attempted to leave without paying after placing the merchandise in his shoulder bag, then handed him over to the police.

During questioning, the man admitted to the allegations, stating “That’s correct,” and explained his motive as “Due to financial hardship and because it looked delicious and I wanted to eat it.”

The man was found to have only 79 yen in his possession, and police are investigating whether he may have committed other crimes.
