In Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture, a report was made of a person being stabbed with a knife, and a man in his 40s was taken to the hospital. Subsequently, an arson incident occurred at an apartment about two kilometers away, and police are investigating a possible connection.
According to police and other sources, around 9:50 p.m. on the 5th, at a workplace in Fujii-cho, Anjo City, the fire department received a report from police that an employee had been stabbed in the abdomen with a knife by a coworker.
One man in his 40s was taken to the hospital and is conscious. The attacker is believed to be a foreign man, who fled the scene before police arrived.
About an hour later, police officers heading to an apartment about two kilometers north of the scene, believed to be related to the incident, found flames and black smoke rising from a room on the fourth floor. Fifteen fire engines were dispatched, and the fire was extinguished about two hours later. A 25-year-old man living in the apartment complained of feeling unwell and was taken to the hospital.
Police arrested a 58-year-old Brazilian man living in the room where the fire started on suspicion of arson of an occupied building. During questioning, the man admitted to the charge, saying he set the fire himself. The man also has an abdominal injury and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Police believe the incident is related to the attempted murder and are investigating the circumstances in detail.
