Peach theft prevention: security cameras installed in orchards before shipping season in Toyota City, Aichi
Five security cameras have been installed in an orchard in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, ahead of the peach shipping season.
In the Sanage district of Toyota City, the “Sanage District Orchard Protection Project” has been launched to prevent the annual theft of agricultural products.
On the 4th, JA Aichi and the police installed five security cameras in the orchard as a measure against peach theft.
Last year, there were six cases of peach theft in the Sanage district, with a total of about 2,000 peaches stolen.
The damage is estimated at approximately 1 million yen.
“Farmers work hard from early morning until late at night, so we want people to understand that feeling and buy peaches at the store,” said producer Yoshimi Isomura.
In the Sanage district, security cameras are also scheduled to be installed in a pear orchard in early July.
Toyota City
Toyota City, located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, is historically significant as the birthplace and global headquarters of the Toyota Motor Corporation. Originally named Koromo, the city was renamed in 1959 to reflect its deep association with the automotive giant, which grew from a textile machinery company founded by Sakichi Toyoda. Today, it remains a center for automotive innovation and manufacturing, blending industrial heritage with modern technology.
Sanage district
Sanage district, located in modern-day Aichi Prefecture, Japan, is historically renowned as a major center for ceramic production, particularly during the Heian (794–1185) and Kamakura (1185–1333) periods. It was one of the “Six Ancient Kilns” of Japan, producing durable, utilitarian stoneware such as jars and bowls that were widely traded across the country. Over time, Sanage ware declined as other kilns, like those in Seto, rose to prominence, but the district remains an important archaeological site in the history of Japanese pottery.
