Last night, a report was made in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture, that someone had been stabbed with a knife, and a man was taken to the hospital. Later, a fire broke out in an apartment near the scene, and police are investigating the connection of a Brazilian national arrested on suspicion of arson.

According to police and other sources, around 9:50 p.m. last night, the fire department notified police that at the Inoac Corporation Sakurai Works in Fujii-cho, Anjo City, “a colleague was stabbed in the stomach with a knife.”

One man in his 40s was taken to the hospital and is conscious. The person who did the stabbing is believed to be a foreign man, and when police officers arrived, he had already fled the scene.

About an hour later, a fire broke out in an apartment room about two kilometers north of the scene. Police arrested a 58-year-old Brazilian national, suspect Valarini Werner, of unknown occupation and a resident of that room, on the spot on suspicion of arson of an inhabited building.

In response to police questioning, suspect Werner reportedly admitted to the charge, saying, “I set the fire myself.” Police believe suspect Werner may be involved in the attempted murder case and are investigating the circumstances in detail.
