Birth numbers in three prefectures of the Tokai region hit a record low; Mie Prefecture says it aims to create an environment conducive to marriage, childbirth, and child-rearing.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s “Vital Statistics” show that the number of births in the three Tokai prefectures in 2025 reached an all-time low.

In 2025, the number of children born in the three Tokai prefectures was 44,290 in Aichi Prefecture, 9,351 in Gifu Prefecture, and 8,792 in Mie Prefecture, all lower than the previous year and the lowest on record.
