The United States has announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. How long will the impact last…

“The blockade measures will be activated tomorrow at 10 AM. We are working with other countries to ensure Iran cannot sell its oil. It will be an extremely effective measure.”

Following the failure to reach an agreement in talks aimed at ending the conflict, it was announced that starting at 11 PM Japan time today, blockade measures for the Strait of Hormuz will commence.

The measures target all vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports, but it was stated that “for vessels entering or leaving ports other than Iran, freedom of navigation will not be impeded.”

Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital maritime chokepoint connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the wider Indian Ocean. Historically, it has been a key trade route for centuries, but in the modern era, its significance is defined by the transit of about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. This has made it a focal point of geopolitical tensions and international security concerns for decades.
