This morning, a crane lifting heavy equipment toppled over and crashed into an adjacent apartment building in Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward, causing a temporary power outage affecting approximately 1,300 households in the surrounding area.
A construction crane has collapsed and is leaning against the neighboring building.
The fallen crane struck the apartment’s rooftop section, causing it to bend.
This is footage taken on the rooftop. The crane can be seen crushing the fence.
Around 8 a.m. this morning, a report came in from a building demolition site in Koishikawa, Bunkyo Ward, stating that an excavator had made contact with power lines.
According to police, the crane was lifting another piece of heavy equipment from the ground to transport it to the rooftop section of a building undergoing demolition. However, during this operation, the crane lost its balance and collided with the building and the adjacent apartment. The heavy equipment fell onto the road behind the apartment building.
A loud noise, like a building collapsing, occurred. It was on the level of a large earthquake. The shaking was considerable. Since the rooftop pool is used in the summer, it’s very fortunate that no one was there.
There were no injuries from this accident. However, when the heavy equipment fell, it came into contact with power lines, causing a temporary power outage affecting 1,290 households in the surrounding area.
Police are investigating the detailed circumstances at the time of the accident.
