On the night of the 27th, a 59-year-old man was arrested in a residential area of Ōno Town, Gifu Prefecture, for allegedly dousing a female relative with kerosene and attempting to set her on fire with a lighter.

The man, a 59-year-old self-employed worker from Shimozakura, Ōno Town, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

According to police, the man is suspected of pouring kerosene on a female relative in her 50s at his home around 8:45 PM on the 27th and then attempting to set her clothes on fire with a lighter.

During questioning, the man admitted to the act but denied having any intent to kill.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a report from the woman stating, “He said he would kill me and has a lighter and kerosene.” Upon confirming the man’s actions, they proceeded with the arrest.

The man was reportedly intoxicated at the time, and police are investigating the details of the incident.
