In cooperation with the research forest in Hokkaido University located in the town, Kyoto Brewing, a craft beer manufacturer, is producing a new beer named “North Far Far Away”. This beer utilizes sprouts growing on the branches of thinned Siberian dwarf pine trees as a substitute for hops. These trees are similar to the species used traditionally in North American beer brewing, aiming to achieve a unique flavor. The research forest is also considering this as part of their strategy to broaden forest utilization.
