New Beer Made with Spruce Tips Harvested from Hokkaido’s Horokanai and Hokkaido University’s Uryu Experimental Forest Set to Launch in July

In cooperation with the research forest in Hokkaido University located in the town, Kyoto Brewing, a craft beer manufacturer, is producing a new beer named “North Far Far Away”. This beer utilizes sprouts growing on the branches of thinned Siberian dwarf pine trees as a substitute for hops. These trees are similar to the species used traditionally in North American beer brewing, aiming to achieve a unique flavor. The research forest is also considering this as part of their strategy to broaden forest utilization.
