Something different marked this year’s World Clean Up Day celebration in Tangerang City. The cleanup activity, centered at the Adipura Monument on Saturday, September 20, 2025, was not just about collecting trash. It also became a humanitarian movement in support of Palestine.

The Mayor of Tangerang initiated this unique idea by inviting the public to clean up. The collected trash was not simply discarded but sold, and the proceeds were donated to help the people of Palestine.

“There are many ways we can show care for Palestine. One of them is by turning environmental cleanup actions into a way to share,” he stated.

He emphasized that this action, besides being a form of solidarity, also serves as public education on waste management.

“This movement sends a message that waste can have economic value if managed properly. So besides cleaning our environment, there are tangible benefits that can aid humanitarian efforts,” he said.

He also encouraged the public to continue the habit of sorting waste from home, fostering a healthy lifestyle, and preserving the earth.

“The spirit of World Clean Up Day is the spirit of togetherness. We clean the environment while making every piece of trash an act of worship, as it is intended as charity for Palestine,” he concluded.

The activity was met with great enthusiasm from the community. Since morning, residents came in droves, bringing trash from their homes. Various types of waste, from plastic bottles and cardboard to cans, were collected and weighed.

For example, one resident from Gembor Village, Periuk District, came to the World Clean Up Day event carrying 7 kilograms of trash.

“Rather than letting this trash pile up at home, I intend it as charity. I hope it can be useful for our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” she said.

Not only the general public, but school students also participated. They brought waste from their school environment, while also learning about the importance of sorting and managing waste from an early age.

Not only in the city center, this World Clean Up Day action was also held simultaneously in 13 districts throughout Tangerang City. The collected waste will be sold, and the proceeds will be handed over via the local National Alms Agency (BAZNAS) to be channeled to Palestine.

Previously, the local government together with the local legislative council, BAZNAS, and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) had also successfully collected donations of 2 billion Rupiah for Palestine, which were directly distributed through official envoys some time ago.
