Evidence: ropes used by two perpetrators to tie the victim during a hostage situation at a house in Cibodas, Tangerang City.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of Jatiuwung Police, Metro Tangerang City Police, uncovered a case of alleged deprivation of liberty and assault against a man who was reportedly held hostage in a house in the Cibodas area, Tangerang City.

In this case, police have named two suspects: JP, 54, and WD, 23. Both are suspected of involvement in holding the victim, Iwan Kurniawan, 53, tied up for more than twelve hours.

The Jatiuwung Police Chief explained that the case came to light from a public report received by police on Monday night, June 1, 2026, regarding a man allegedly held hostage in a house on Jalan Cemara 5, Cibodasari Village, Cibodas District.

“Upon receiving this information, officers immediately moved to the location to check. Upon arrival at the crime scene, officers found the victim tied up and then immediately carried out a rescue and examined those present at the location,” said the Chief.

From the investigation, it was known that the incident began early Monday morning around 4:00 AM local time. The victim, who was preparing to move house with his wife, was suddenly approached by suspect JP along with his child, WD.

The victim was then forcibly taken by motorcycle to the suspect’s house in the Cibodasari area.

Upon arrival, the victim was allegedly immediately held hostage and tied with plastic ropes on his hands, feet, and head.

Not only that, the victim also allegedly experienced intimidation and threats while inside the house.

“According to the victim’s statement, the suspects forced the victim to immediately pay off his debt. The victim also claimed to have received threats and treatment that caused physical and psychological suffering during the hostage situation,” said the Chief.

The case was finally uncovered after the victim’s family received photos and videos showing the victim tied up.

This information was then forwarded to the police, who immediately took swift action at the location.

From the crime scene, police secured several pieces of evidence, including three pieces of plastic rope, a bolster pillow, a plastic mat, the victim’s clothes, a green-handled knife, and one motorcycle used in the incident.

The Metro Tangerang City Police Chief emphasized that all forms of problem-solving, including debt issues, must be carried out according to legal mechanisms and cannot be justified by violence or vigilante actions.

“There is no excuse that justifies depriving someone of their liberty or committing violence. If there are debt issues or other disputes, resolve them through the applicable legal channels. Do not take actions that could potentially lead to new criminal acts,” he asserted.

He also appreciated the quick response of Jatiuwung Police officers who successfully rescued the victim and uncovered the case.

“I urge the public to immediately report to the police if they witness or experience violence, hostage-taking, or threats. The police will take firm action against any acts that disturb and endanger public safety,” he continued.

Currently, the two suspects have been detained and are undergoing further legal proceedings. Investigators are still completing case files and coordinating with the Public Prosecutor for the next legal process.
