HS, 51, a neighborhood unit head arrested by Tangerang Police for alleged extortion of a contractor in Citra Raya, Cikupa District, Tangerang Regency, claimed he had only held the position for a week.
He stated that he was elected by acclamation.
“I’ve only been in office for a week. I was chosen through acclamation. This is my first term,” said HS during an interview at Tangerang Police Headquarters.
HS also admitted that the money he received from the contractor would be used, in part, for community needs. However, he acknowledged his actions were wrong.
“I was indeed wrong, and I regret it,” he said.
Meanwhile, HS’s accomplice, S, 35, a local community unit head, had held his position for 12 years. S also admitted his wrongdoing.
“I’ve been a community unit head for 12 years. I admit I was wrong,” S explained.
Investigators presented evidence of a receipt for Rp30 million, labeled as payment for “Regional Coordination…” and dated July 28, 2025.
The receipt bore the signatures of HS and S. When questioned, both suspects acknowledged their signatures.
“Yes, that’s my signature and the neighborhood head’s. And I admit it was wrong,” said S.
Previously reported, the Tangerang Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested HS and S in Citra Raya, Cikupa District, on Monday, July 28, 2025.
They were arrested after a contractor, working on a classroom expansion project at a junior high school in Curug District, reported them for alleged extortion.
Police stated that the suspects demanded Rp35 million, but the victim agreed to only Rp15 million. Dissatisfied, they then threatened to block construction material vehicle access unless Rp30 million was paid. The case remains under investigation.
