A firefighter on duty at the Pinang Fire Station in Tangerang City was assaulted while performing his duties.
The victim was on solo watch when a suspect arrived with two companions. They asked for permission to stop by, and the victim allowed them, on the condition they maintained order at the location.
Shortly after, the suspect, allegedly in an emotional state, began hurling insults and threw coffee at the victim.
When the victim tried to defuse the situation, he was struck, resulting in a laceration on his left temple and an impact injury to his head.
The head of the local disaster management agency stated that their current priority is the victim’s recovery and supporting the ongoing legal process.
“Our current focus is ensuring the victim recovers and receives the best medical care. We are also providing support for the ongoing legal proceedings,” the official stated.
The victim reported the incident to the Pinang Police Station and was directed to undergo a medical forensic examination.
The medical examination was conducted at EMC Hospital. Afterwards, the victim returned to the police station to undergo formal questioning with three witnesses.
Following this, the victim rested at the fire station. However, he later experienced severe nausea, ringing in the ears, and intense pain at the back of his head, leading to vomiting. He was subsequently rushed to the emergency room at Hermina Hospital for further treatment.
The official reported that the victim’s condition had begun to improve by the next morning, but further observation was still required.
“As of this morning, his condition has improved but still requires deeper observation. The victim has been recommended for a head CT scan as well as neurological and eye examinations, and is currently under observation by specialist doctors to ensure a comprehensive assessment of his health,” the official explained.
The official emphasized that this incident highlights the need to enhance protection for personnel on duty.
“However, the most important thing right now is the health of our firefighter. The rest, we will leave to the ongoing legal process,” the official concluded.
