The government has designated Monday, August 18, 2025, as a joint national holiday to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
This decision is outlined in the Joint Decree (SKB) of the Minister of Religion, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform No. 933 of 2025, No. 1 of 2025, and No. 3 of 2025. The SKB amends the previous decision regarding National Holidays and Joint Leave for 2025.
The meeting to establish the joint decree was held at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.
The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry explained that the designation of August 18 as a joint holiday aims to provide a broader opportunity for the public to celebrate this historic independence moment solemnly, with national pride and festivity.
Therefore, the public is encouraged to participate in various activities, ranging from flag ceremonies, traditional competitions, community festivals, to cultural and educational events.
The Deputy for National Character and Identity Strengthening stated that this additional joint holiday is expected to positively impact the tourism sector and local economy through increased public mobility during the long weekend.
“The government urges all government institutions, private sector, and the general public to use this moment productively and responsibly to strengthen national unity,” he said.
