Russian forces have made significant progress in the eastern Ukrainian theater, particularly around the city of Avdiivka and in the Donetsk region. The Russian military appears to be leveraging its advantage in artillery and manpower to grind through Ukrainian defensive lines.

Ukrainian officials report that Russian troops are concentrating their efforts on the Avdiivka front, attempting to encircle the city. Heavy fighting is ongoing in the areas of Stepove, Keramik, and north of Avdiivka. The Russian military is also making gains near Bakhmut, where they have advanced in the direction of Chasiv Yar.

On the southern front, Russian forces have intensified operations near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region, though Ukrainian defenders report they are holding their positions. The Russian military continues to conduct airstrikes and artillery bombardments across the front line, targeting both military positions and civilian infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine’s defense forces are doing everything possible to hold the line and that the situation is “extremely difficult” in several sectors. He called for increased Western military aid, particularly in air defense systems and long-range weapons.

In a separate development, the Kremlin has announced the expansion of its military draft, lowering the minimum age for conscription from 18 to 17. This move is seen as an effort to bolster Russian troop numbers amid heavy casualties in the ongoing war.

Western analysts note that the Russian military is adapting its tactics, using smaller assault groups and increased electronic warfare to counter Ukrainian drones and artillery. However, they caution that Russia’s overall strategic objective of capturing the entire Donbas region remains unchanged and that the coming weeks may see further escalation.

Avdiivka

Chasiv Yar
